City Nature Challenge - April, 26
The City Nature Challenge, CNC, is a fun global competition where cities team up to track urban biodiversity. Researchers and locals alike contribute by uploading photos and audio to the iNaturalist app within a specific timeframe. The main goals are to get as many people as possible involved in collecting data and to document the greatest variety of species in city environments.
This year, the Regional Museum of Natural Sciences, MRSN, will once again organize the challenge on behalf of the Municuipality of Turin. Citizens can easily participate by uploading data to iNaturalist, which is simple and intuitive to use.
For those eager to learn and see biodiversity experts in action, the MRSN will be hosting a series of bioblitzes, events open to citizens of all ages.
Sunday, April 26
On Sunday, April 26, the bioblitzes will start at 9:30 am in Colonnetti Park, offering a variety of sessions on topics like family activities, plants, birds, butterflies and pollinators, aquatic and terrestrial invertebrates, lichens, mammals, and alien species.
The park offers ample parking on Strada Castello di Mirafiori and Via Modesto Panetta, and is also just a 20- minute walk from the Bengasi metro station. Additionally, you can join a botanical walk organized by the Management Body for the Protected Areas of the Piedmontese Po, starting from the Basilica of Superga.
Participation in the event is free, but registration is required and will be open from April 8 to 24.
