10–11 October: Lessona Days and Lessona Award
MICHELE LESSONA© AWARD FOR SCIENTIFIC COMMUNICATION
Discover the second edition of Lessona Days!
It will be dedicated to the theme of Climate Change and will be held in Turin and Venaria Reale on Friday 10 and Saturday 11 October. On the same days, the Lessona Award will be launched, a national award that will be presented to the best professional communicator who uses new tools and new languages to communicate science. The national award was created to encourage and promote scientific communication in the world of education and research: the two dedicated sections of the award will see the presentation of the award in spring 2026.
Why the Michele Lessona Award?
Michele Lessona, a distinguished figure of the 19th century, was a doctor, naturalist, politician, journalist, novelist, traveller, museum director, university professor, rector, city councillor of Turin, senator of the Kingdom and much more. He distinguished himself as a highly regarded lecturer and brilliant storyteller; populariser and translator of Charles Darwin's major works, he was described by many as the first Italian science communicator. The award aims to encourage reflection on the value of science in our lives: it is an integral part of our daily lives and influences many of our choices, which are relevant not only to us as human beings but also to the entire planet we inhabit. The theme chosen for the first edition is climate change, one of the greatest challenges for the future of humanity.
Section dedicated to SCHOOLS
The theme chosen for this first edition (2025-2026), in addition to the profession of science communicator inspired by Lessona's legacy, proposes to develop the theme of climate change, one of the greatest challenges for the future of humanity.
