Antarctica: Tales of a Scientific Expedition.
Embark on a journey to explore Antarctica, the southernmost continent on Earth.
Antarctica is the coldest, windiest, and most uninhabitable continent on Earth. It has become a focal point for environmental concerns in recent years. Global warming is accelerating ice melt, contributing to rising sea levels. Additionally, climate change is disrupting the delicate ecosystems of the region, threatening wildlife and disturbing the natural balance. As a result, Antarctica has emerged as a critical natural laboratory for studying climate change and assessing the future trajectory of the planet.
During the event, Camille Mermillon will share her experiences at the French Dumont-d'Urville base in Adélie Land. Her presentation will offer insights into life at a scientific station, with a focus on the work of a biologist-ecologist. She will also explore polar landscapes, including icebergs and glaciers, and introduce iconic species such as the emperor penguin and the Weddell seal. A rich collection of photographs and videos will provide an immersive look into this extraordinary adventure.
Camille Mermillon, an ecologist and naturalist, is nearing the completion of her PhD in ecology at the University of Turin and the University of Savoie Mont Blanc in France. Passionate about both mountain ecosystems and polar regions, she spent 14 months in Antarctica conducting fieldwork on local fauna as part of a scientific program led by the CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique).
