ANTHROPOCENE: THE AGE OF MAN

Domestication is a fundamental stage in the history of human evolution and the planet, so much so that more and more scholars identify it as the true beginning of the Anthropocene, the geological era in which we live.

The domestication of plants and animals was a pivotal turning point that allowed human populations to grow exponentially from a few hundred thousand to millions and then billions.

Why did agriculture come about? When and where did it originate? How did we domesticate plants and animals? We will talk about the 13,000 years of human history, from hunter-gatherers to farmers, a gradual but transformative shift where early humans transitioned from a nomadic lifestyle to settled agriculture.

We will be examining how this past transition led to the present condition and then look to the future. Human survival depends on the future of agriculture and the preservation of biodiversity indeed .

Vincenzo Venuto is a biologist with a PhD in Natural and Environmental Sciences, a science communicator, writer, author, director and television presenter. He has consistently produced documentaries about animals, nature, and adventure for Italian television. He is currently engaged as presenter and author on the television programme Melaverde, broadcast on Channel 5. Despite his television commitments, he keeps on being involved in scientific communication through the podcast IL GORILLA CE L'HA PICCOLO, GORILLAS HAVE SMALL PENISES, books, meetings and articles.
