City Nature Challenge - April, 24
The City Nature Challenge, CNC, is a fun global competition where cities team up to track urban biodiversity. Researchers and locals alike contribute by uploading photos and audio to the iNaturalist app within a specific timeframe. The main goals are to get as many people as possible involved in collecting data and to document the greatest variety of species in city environments.
This year, the Regional Museum of Natural Sciences, MRSN, will once again organize the challenge on behalf of the Municuipality of Turin. Citizens can easily participate by uploading data to iNaturalist, which is simple and intuitive to use.
For those eager to learn and see biodiversity experts in action, the MRSN will be hosting a series of bioblitzes, events open to citizens of all ages.
Friday, April 24
On the evening of Friday, April 24, a bioblitz will take place with a short walk in the Turin hills, at Pian del Lot. Recommended for adults, this activity will explore the night-time creatures near the city center, using limited artificial light to spot amphibians like newts and salamanders. Participants should bring a torch and wear appropriate footwear.
Participation in the event is free, but registration is required and will be open from April 8 to 24.
