What is the project for?
LIFE MINNOW aims at preventing the declining of six endangered freshwater fish species in the northern basin of the Po River, in Piedmont.
Here are the main measures:
✔ Restoring river connectivity on 122 km of waterways by removing barriers to fish passage.
✔ Habitat improvement in 13 strategic areas.
✔ Restocking five species by fish breeding.
✔ Monitoring invasive alien species on 440 km of rivers within Natura 2000 sites.
✔ Sustainable reuse of allochthonous biomass in partnership with an animal nutrition company.
✔ Engaging citizens, students and fishermen in Citizen Science projects.
The project also provides:
- drafting of conservation measures;
- guidelines for river continuity;
- best practice to be shared at international level (Italy, Spain and France).
