Petrificata: i fossili ritrovati di Carlo Allioni

A meticulous scientific research effort led to the discovery of the oldest geological collection from Piedmont, now preserved at the Experimental Geological Museum of the C.A.I. Giaveno. This is the personal museum of 18th-century naturalist and physician Carlo Ludovico Allioni.

A universally recognized author, Allioni published Orittografia Pedemontana in 1757, the first paleontological treatise on the fossils of our region. Written in Latin, this work describes the species and the sites of origin of all the specimens that could be found in the Piedmont area during Allioni's lifetime.

Thanks to the dedication of several teachers and a class of students (academic year 2014/15) from the I.I.S. “Blaise Pascal” in Giaveno, coordinated by the curator of the geological museum, this important monograph has been fully translated and finally published.

The evening will showcase the results of this incredible educational and cultural endeavor, which engaged teachers and students for two full years, including the thrilling story of the rediscovery of this "forgotten collection."

Don’t miss the opportunity to learn about a significant chapter in our natural history!
