Education and Training

For schools

A wide range of educational workshops, guided tours, themed routes, nature trails, pathways for soft skills and guidance, training and refresher courses for teachers.

The educational proposals, from pre-school to upper secondary school, are grouped in the Activity Notebook of the Education Centre for Schools. That is a publication, edited by the Education Section and released on an annual basis, which brings together initiatives to be carried out in a variety of settings: museum, schools, local and digital environments.

Educational Workshops

The educational workshops, led by expert naturalists, offer the opportunity to explore not only the natural sciences, but also cross-cutting topics related to environmental education, sustainable development and climate change, providing an overview rooted in current events.

Interdisciplinary proposals encompass music, art and anthropology, among others.

The activities feature a wide range of practical and manipulative experiences, nurturing interest, curiosity and critical analysis through direct observation of artefacts, the use of models, multimedia devices and laboratory equipment.

Guided tours and themed routes

Exploring the MRSN exhibition halls, under the supervision of expert naturalists, provides an in-depth insight into the topics covered in the exhibition areas, known as the Historical Museum of Zoology, the Ark and the Hall of Wonders.

The itineraries have different objectives and content, according to the grade level. They are designed around specific themes: winter adaptations, animal courtship rituals, taxidermy, survival strategies to name but a few.

Guided tours are available in English and French, on request.

Nature trails

Nature trails are field trip intended for students, designed to complement workshop experiences and provide opportunities for direct, multi-sensory engagement with nature, as they are carried out at nature sites.

Training and refresher courses for teachers

The MRSN provides training and refresher courses, seminars and forums for teachers, designed to foster interdisciplinary approaches and methodologies.

A steady collaboration with the Piedmont section of ANISN, the National Association of Natural Science Teachers, has been going on for ten years.

What is on offer for teachers is training, refresher courses and guidance. Teachers are taught how to develop conceptual frameworks to fit activities into, not least by sharing and comparing experiences with colleagues.

Pathways for Soft Skills and Guidance (PCTO)

The Education Section of the MRSN is a host structure for the Pathways for Soft Skills and Guidance (PCTO) for secondary school students.

During the PCTO activities, students, with the support of tutors from both their home institution and the scientific staff of the educational services, participate in designing visit routes and workshops for museum visitors, especially schoolchildren and students.

By harmonising theoretical knowledge and practical experience, participants are given the opportunity to improve awareness of their personal aptitudes, to develop soft skills, such as interpersonal and behavioural ones, and to acquire knowledge crucial for aligning education and career with their aspirations.

Should the school have special needs, the Education Section is available to implement tailor-made projects.

About us

Since 1996, the Education Section has been responsible for the Museum's educational and training offerings, planning and implementing workshops, guided tours, nature trails and itineraries tailored to age and audience.

All activities offer opportunities for discovery, exploration, cultural, sensory and emotional stimulation. Taking part in a guided tour or an educational activity arouses curiosity, conveys knowledge and develops skills in a non-conventional way, fostering active learning processes.

Schools, civil organisations, public administrations, third sector entities, public and private institutions, citizens and families... anyone can benefit from the MRSN's educational services.

The Education Section also encourages the co-planning of thematic routes or specific activities, according to the needs and demands of the public.
