Educational Garden

Description

The Educational Garden was created in 2007.

It is the first facility assigned and set aside for environmental education within the Gesso and Stura River Park.

In 2022, the area had to be redesigned to account for climate change by implementing sustainable water management strategies.

The transition from a traditional to a resistance garden involved:

  • the growing of vegetables, aromatic plants and fruit trees using sustainable methods;
  • the trialling of new, low-water crops;
  • organising nature events and activities.

The Resistance Educational Garden consists of:

  • several flower beds with and without mulch to protect the soil;
  • a raised bed gardening setups for people with limited mobility;
  • a bio-lake;
  • a leguminous plants pergola;
  • a rose garden with ancient species;
  • fruit trees;
  • an herb spiral;
  • a next generation greenhouse for educational activities and themed workshops.

Activities

The Educational Garden provides:

  • educational activities for students of all levels and youth summer camps;
  • training programmes for teachers and educators;
  • events promoting environmental awareness and engagement;
  • educational-recreational workshops.
