Overview

The Giorgio Segre Natural History Museum was founded by the Municipality of Cherasco in 2007.

It houses:

  • two starfish fossils in perfect condition. 
    They were found in Cherasco;
  • a collection of molluscs, minerals and fossils which belonged to Professor Giorgio Segre. 
    He donated them to the town of Cherasco;
  • the Natural History Fund, made up of collections belonging to the Somaschi Fathers.
    They bequeathed it to the town of Cherasco;
  • other donations by local naturalist enthusiasts.

Collections

  • Malacology collection: over 600 species systematically ordered.
  • Mineralogy collection displayed along a guided trail.
    It provides food for thought, analysis and insight into Planet Earth.
  • Ornithology collection.
    A few specimens are exhibited.
    The biology of birds is explained.
  • Geology and Palaeontology collection dedicated to the geological stratigraphy of the Cherasco area.
    Local fossils are on display.
  • Five dioramas depicting environments of the local area are also featured.

Activities

The Museum provides:

  • educational activities for schoolchildren;
  • educational outdoor activities in the surrounding area.
  • annual national drawing competition, related to the nature of the local area.
    It is aimed at the publication of a calendar.
