Grangia di Pobietto

Overview

La Grangia di Pobietto is a visitor center of the Management Body for the protected Areas of the piedmontese Po.

Is is an architectural complex and it presents a mix of active farming and significant underutilization of its structures.

It is situated at the heart of a vast rice-growing district, positioned on an elevated morphological terrace, providing geomorphological stability and reduced hydrological risk compared to the adjacent, lower-lying floodplain, which is more susceptible to inundation and waterlogging.

Its construction dates back to the late 12th century.
Some original features are still visible.

The Gate Tower and a section of wall with a pointed arch date from the medieval period.

Archaeological finds and evidence of a Bronze Age village were unearthed in the surrounding area in the 1990s.

La Grangia is a property under the ownership of the Vercelli Local Health Authority.

Following structural renovation completed in 2012, a portion of the complex was designated as the institution’s headquarters.

Adaptive reuse of the former stable has converted the space into a functional conference and lecture venue.

The upper floor accommodates an integrated educational workshop and library.

The extensive external portico provides a versatile area designed for educational activities, offering shelter from both solar radiation and precipitation.

La Grangia incorporates extensive surrounding acreage.
