Infini.to. Turin Planetarium and Attilio Ferrari Museum of Astronomy and Outer Space
Overview
Infini.to is a centre for the dissemination of scientific knowledge.
Founded in Pino Torinese in 2007, it is next to the Astrophysical Observatory of Turin, a research facility of the National Institute of Astrophysics (INAF).
The architecture of Infini.to recalls a real celestial object: a binary system formed by a red giant star and a black hole.
The sphere enclosing the Planetarium hall represents the star.
A crystal cone flowing down from the entrance recreating the astrophysical jet in a black hole, on the floor -3.
The helicoidal stands for the gas spiralling out of the giant star and getting swallowed by the black hole.
Infini.to incorporates the Digital Planetarium and the Interactive Museum of Astronomy and Outer Space.
Planetarium
The Planetarium is a sky simulator, therefore what you can see is not real as such, but a reconstruction.
The Infini.to Planetarium is among the most cutting-edge of its kind in Europe. It is a projection system based on state-of-the-art digital graphics.
Without moving from your seat, you can watch how the sky unfolds at a given time in a certain place and embark on a discovery journey through the most captivating objects inhabiting the Univers
Interactive Museum of Astronomy and Space
It hosts a number of interactive installations which enable visitors to gain in-depth knowledge and experience of the astronomical topics:
- space voyages;
- gravity simulations;
- manipulation of the magnetic field;
- 3D visions of the Universe;
- the most recent cosmological discoveries;
Visitors can time-travel back to the origin of the Universe and the Big Bang, then into the future to uncover the possible destiny of the cosmos.
Duration of daytime visit: Interactive Museum approx. 1 hour + Planetarium show 30 minutes.
Duration of evening observation: Interactive Museum approx. 45 minutes + direct observation, or alternative show at the Planetarium hall in the event of bad weather, 45 minutes.
No architectural barriers.
Media library
Infini.to hosts a media library with RAI footage.
