Overview

The Management Body for the Protected Areas of the Piedmontese Po is an auxiliary body of Regione Piemonte.

The designated management area extends across 16,000 ha, spanning 53 municipalities and 4 provincial administrative units:

  • Alessandria;
  • Cuneo;
  • Turin;
  • Vercelli.

It manages 3 nature Parks:

  • The Piedmontese Po Nature Park;
  • The Bosco della Partecipanza and Grange Vercellesi Nature Park (VC);
  • The Collina di Superga Nature Park (TO).

There are 5 nature Reserves under its jurisdiction:

  • Bosco del Vaj Nature Reserve (TO);
  • Mulino Vecchio Nature Reserve (TO e VC);
  • Isolotto del Ritano Nature Reserve (TO e VC);
  • Castelnuovo Scrivia Nature Reserve (AL);
  • Torrente Orba Nature Reserve (AL).

The Body manages 24 sites within the Natura 2000 network:

  • 8 Special Areas of Conservation (ZSC):
    • Superga Hill (TO);
    • Bosco del Vaj and Bosc Grand (TO);
    • Confluence of the Po and Maira rivers (TO e CN);
    • Mulino Vecchio (TO e VC);
    • San Genuario Marsh (VC);
    • Santa Maria Island (TO, VC e AL);
    • Ghiaia Grande, on the River Po (AL);
    • Confluence of the Po, Sesia and Tanaro rivers (AL).
  • 4 Special Protection Areas (ZPS):
    • Meisino, at the confluence of the Po and Stura rivers (TO);
    • Vercelli rice fields (VC);
    • San Genuario and San Silvestro marshes (VC);
    • River Po – Vercelli-Alessandria section (TO, VC e AL);
  • 3 Sites of Community Importance (SIC):
    • Riverbanks of Palazzolo Vercellese (VC);
    • Lower Scrivia (AL);
    • Bric Montariolo (AL);
  • 9 Special Areas of Conservation (ZSCs) and Special Protection Areas (ZPSs):
    • Lanca di Santa Marta, at the confluence of the Po and Banna rivers (TO);
    • Confluence of the Po, Orco and Malone rivers (TO);
    • Baraccone, at the confluence of the Po and Dora Baltea rivers (TO e VC);
    • Lanca di San Michele (TO);
    • Po morto di Carignano (TO);
    • Bosco della Partecipanza di Trino (VC);
    • Fontana Gigante, in the municipality of Tricerro (VC);
    • Isolotto del Ritano, along the stretch of the Dora Baltea (TO e VC);
    • Torrente Orba (AL).
