MUNICIPAL MUSHROOM MUSEUM, GIAVENO

Introduction

The Museum is a Documentation Centre for woodland and mushrooms.

It is a landmark on the local woodland heritage and mountainous area.

Collections

The exhibition hall features:

  • some 20 full mushroom replicas made out of paper and wood;
  • guidance material on the habitat, characteristics and interesting facts of the main local mushroom species;
  • supplies used by boulajours (mushroom foragers);
  • mushroom-related handicrafts;
  • 4 specimens of mushrooms made out of resin by Mario Strani (1907–2000), a dental doctor with a passion for mushrooms. Other models and casts of mushrooms by Mario Strani can be admired in the Boves Mushroom and Natural Science Museum and in the Civico Museo Didattico di Scienze Naturali Mario Strani in Pinerolo.

Activities

The Museum provides:

  • educational activities for students;
  • special opening during Fungo in Festa, a local fair held in the first and second week of October.
