Rovenaud: Water and Biodiversity

Useful Information

Overview

Rovenaud: Water and Biodiversity is a Visitor Center of the Gran Paradiso National Park.

The Centre promotes the understanding and appreciation of aquatic ecosystems.

It is nestled in a leafy, spring-fed section of the park.

Visitor trails wind through the Centre and surrounding grounds, featuring:

  • multimedia displays;
  • videos;
  • aquariums.

The Centre champions the protection of the Eurasian otter and its habitat.

Once thriving locally, these otters were hunted to extinction due to man-made environmental damage.

The Centre houses three European otters, serving as ambassadors for a conservation breeding programme.

They reside in a state-of-the-art, enriched habitat designed to support their natural behaviors.

Ethological research are conducted to uncover new insights into otter biology.
