Discover the wild side of Turin! Get involved in the City Nature Challenge 2026 : observe, learn, and win!

The City Nature Challenge, CNC, is an international initiative to sample biodiversity in urban environments, acting as a collaborative, friendly competition among cities worldwide.

The event prompts researchers and citizens to map urban biodiversity by uploading photos or audio on the iNaturalist app within the set timeframe.

The 2026 edition will take place from April 24th to April 27th.

The initiative balances two goals: engaging as many people as possible in data gathering and documenting the widest possible range of species in urban areas.
Also for the 2026, the MRSN will organise the challenge on behalf of the City of Turin.

Participate independently by uploading your data to iNaturalist: it is simple, intuitive, and explained in the guide at the bottom of this page.

For those who wish to dive into the world of biodiversity by witnessing expert monitoring techniques in action, the MRSN is launching all-ages activities for the community. These bioblitzes will take place both on April 25th, at around 5:00 p.m., and on April 26th, starting at 9:30 a.m., at the Colonnetti Park.

The park has a number of parking areas on Strada Castello di Mirafiori and Via Modesto Panetta. It is also easily accessible with a 20-minute walk from the Bengasi metro station.

Activities will cover a broad spectrum of taxonomic groups, ranging from flora to birds, from rotifers to geckos.

A night excursion is scheduled for April 24th at Pian del Lot, in the Turin hills, to search for amphibians and crepuscular organisms. This event is part of a broader series of parallel, multi-location activities designed to explore local biodiversity.

Participation is free of charge to attend, but requires prior sign-up.

Participants who upload the highest volume number of biodiversity observations and unique species within the designated area can win quite a number of prizes!

Full details regarding the program, booking, prizes, and regulations will be posted here shortly.

To track the challenge in real-time, you can subscribe to the project page on iNaturalist, where all observations meeting the requirements will be collected.

Please feel free to visit at any time that suits you.

Hope to see you soon!
