THE MRSN JOURNAL GETS A MAKEOVER: A NEW BEGINNING FOR A HISTORY OF EXCELLENCE

The Bulletin of the Regional Museum of Natural Sciences of Turin, after over forty years of print publications, is undergoing a transformation and making a significant move towards the future. The prestigious scientific journal of the Piedmontese museum institution, now in its 41st edition, is (partially) abandoning paper to embrace the digital age with a new look and innovative management, while keeping its original spirit intact: to be an open and inclusive space for the dissemination of naturalistic knowledge. Founded in 1983, the Bulletin has been a point of reference in the scientific world for decades, with hundreds of articles written not only by university researchers, curators and museologists, but also by young enthusiasts. Its strength has always been its flexibility: its openness to contributions in different languages, with a particular focus on English and Italian, the absence of limits on text length; and the extensive use of color plates have encouraged the participation of a diverse and international scientific community.
Today, we are strengthening and projecting this vocation into the future. The new Bulletin is moving online, with open access publication that guarantees everyone, anywhere in the world, free consultation and reading of its contents. This is an epoch-making change that does not disrupt but rather amplifies the characteristics of openness that have made it so successful.
The revamped Bulletin intends to place particular emphasis on issues that are central to the international scientific debate today, such as:

  • The value and use of natural history collections preserved in museums.
  • The conservation of geodiversity and biodiversity.
  • The support and dissemination of studies conducted by researchers in emerging countries.

Natural history museums are not only places of discovery and description of nature, but also play a leading role in its conservation. Having a lively and up-to-date Bulletin is not only a source of pride, but a necessity to demonstrate the vitality of a research institution. This new addition complements the renewed activities of the MRSN, which reopened its doors to the public in 2024 after a period of closure and renovation.
The collaboration with PAGEPress Publications, a publishing house specializing in digital media, enabled the Bulletin's relaunch. The new management will ensure rapid publication times and, above all, zero costs for authors, eliminating economic barriers and further promoting the dissemination of research.

An invitation to contribute with your own articles

The museum's management and the Bulletin's editorial committee are therefore appealing to all researchers and nature enthusiasts to choose this revamped publication to share their studies and research. The aim is to make the MRSN's scientific publications increasingly up-to-date, engaging and representative of the high-quality research carried out in museums and universities.
